One of those days…

Ever have one of those days where you can’t do anything right? Today is my day…

1. get to work late

2. proceed to knock full cup of hot tea onto mouse, desk, and computer tower….

3. feel the desire to take a Valium or something…chocolate, that is what I need. The only issue is I have to drive to get chocolate, probably a bad idea at this point.

<sigh />

Anime Hair

AnimeHair What do you do when your child likes Pokemon so much that he starts to get the hair?

Admit that you are raising a geek. revel in it, because you know that geeks will rule the earth one day.

Yes, I am a card carrying geek and proud of it. Although, I can’t take credit for the “geeks will rule the earth one day” thing. My good friend conurePT is responsible for that one. :)

Meme time: 5 fictional characters that begin with N

I have to give Imdb their due, I am  not sure that I could have done the meme with out their search engine. So, here are my 5 fictional characters that begin with N.

The rules:

1. Comment on this post and ask for a letter.
2. I will give you one.
3. Think of 5 fictional characters whose names begin with that letter, and post their names and your comments on these characters on your blog.

My letter courtesy of Kristie, was N. I spent two days trying to come up with 5 fictional characters that started with K and I couldn’t think of one so I had to go back and ask for another letter. This time I got a different one – R. I still had a tough time, but I did manage to think them up.

Nurse Ratched – From One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest: 300px-Nurse_Ratched

Scary business here! Nurse Ratched has become a cultural icon and metaphor for bureaucratic corruption, according to Wickipedia. I just think she is scary.

Nirrti – From Stargate SG -1

    nirrti_fairgame

An acient Hindu goddess of darkness (actually a Goa’uld, though) that is responsible for mass destruction. I think that she was a good villain with lots of sparkly bits.

    Nebakanezer – From the Matrix

The Nebakanezer was the ship that Morpheus and his crew ran in the Matrix movies. The ship developed a personality as do most ships in Sci-Fi flicks.

    Nigel – From Finding Nemo

CropperCapture[1] I loved Nigel, he had some seriously comedic moments. He is one if the pelicans from the movie “Finding Nemo”. Nigel aids in the escape plans.

    Nottingham – From Witchblade

    ian1

Nottingham 2001 a character on the cable show Witchblade. I loved this character, he was completely unpredictable and slightly twisted.

    I am still just…. slacking!

Ok, I am a total slacker. I have been reading….really. It’s just that I have been super busy with work and getting the boy ready for school. Yikes, no time for talking about what I have been reading.

So here is a sample of what I have been reading lately. I hope that I will get the time soon to talk about them, some of them were very good!

I think that there is more, but I really don’t remember right now.

Another thing that has been distracting me from blogging lately is the BBAW Awards and Directory.  Go check out Amy’s blog to learn more about the awards and the directory.

    Book Blogger Appreciation Week

I found this on Book Binge today and I think it’s a great idea. If you are a reader or a book blogger join in an participate, it should be a blast!

Here is the content from the original post.

Book Bloggers: You work hard. You read books, you write reviews, you maintain relationships with your readers, publicists, and authors. You are constantly running to the post office to mail your giveaways and participating in carnivals to help boost traffic. You sometimes want to faint when you see the size of your TBR pile, but faithfully you read. And you do it because you love it. Book blogging is for most a hobby. But it’s a hobby that takes a lot of work and time. It’s a labor of love.

I’ve been blogging for three years but only really got into book blogging in the last year. I have found, without a doubt, that book bloggers are the kindest, most open minded, and supportive group of bloggers on the internet. With book blogging, it’s about community and a love for the written word.

The Readers: We love you! You don’t have a blog, but you read our reviews and share your thoughts with us. You enter our giveaways and click on our Amazon associates link. We do this for you and appreciate your readership. We hope you’ll join in the fun and festivities of BBAW! (we’ll have a special contest just for you!)

Book Blogger Appreciation Week: Acknowledging the hard work of book bloggers and their growing impact on book marketing and their essential contribution to book buzz in general, I am excited to announce the first Book Blogger Appreciation Week. Think of it as a retreat for book bloggers and a chance for us to totally nerd out over books together. And of course, shower each other with love and appreciation.

Register: In order to experience the maximum impact of the week, I invite you to register your participation (just like a retreat)!
To register, just send an email to bookbloggerappreciationweekATgmailDOTcom with your blog url and what you consider your niche…i.e, general book blog, classics blog, personal blog with a healthy dose of books, YA books blog, etc. Then, add one of the two buttons at the bottom of this post to your sidebar. If you are a reader (no blog) just send an email announcing your plans to follow along.
Why bother? If you register, you will be added to a book blog directory which will exist long after this week is over. Additionally, you will receive one raffle entry into the daily giveaways during BBAW here at My Friend Amy.

Awards: Oh yes, there will be awards. The Oscars of Book Blogging. :) Nominations start next week.
Spread the Word: If you are excited about this idea like I am and the other book bloggers who are helping, please consider writing a post on your blog announcing this event and inviting other book bloggers and readers to join.

Help Wanted: If you have a talent for designing buttons (like those below) and would like to donate some of your time and skill to me, please email me personally at mypalamyATgmailDOTcom.
You can use these nifty little buttons to promote the cause as well:

    Free eBooks

Everyone has been talking about the Tor free ebooks offer. I found out about it a while ago when it was still a newsletter thing. I think it’s great that they put them all up there at once and are letting people download what they want.

I also discovered something really cool last night, while I was surfing on my Kindle…There is a post about the free Tor books in the Kindle Daily Post section. Now I don’t have to fuss with getting them emailed and moved over to my Kindle, I just went through and downloaded them all. (Not all of the eBooks are offered in the post)

Don’t wait, the offer is only good until July 28th! Go download them all today on teh Kindle or in eBook format from http://tor.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=blog&id=577

I didn’t read it but I’d eat it: Book Lovers Chocolate

While reading my RSS feed this morning I came across a post on Slashfood about the Book Lover’s Collection from Bridge Brand’s Chocolate. It looks great and according to Slashfood, it tastes great.

Looks good? Go check it out at http://bridgebrandschocolate.com/Cart/detail.asp?p=146

    Kindle Savings to date

So, I have had my Kindle since May 18th and I have saved 32$. That is about 10% in a little over 2 weeks. Pretty good Donkey, pretty good… At this rate, I should make back my investment without any problems.

UPDATE: I am up to $55 dollars saved.

    Swap-Bot

A few days ago Natalie over at http://nataliecakes.wordpress.com/2008/03/19/the-great-candy-swap/ started a Great Candy swap, it looked fun so I joined. Mailing my box of Zingerman’s and Sander’s out tomorrow, in fact…

What else do you expect? Candy from MI = Zingerman’s & Sander’s. At least it wasn’t soda, can you imagine the shipping on Vendors? Yikes!

Anyway, there are several book related swaps going on swap-bot. Once I have some cred built up I will find one and swap out some of my books. It’s much more fun than doing a straight library donation or freecycle.
