Book meme: Nearest Book

Here is a meme that i saw on Bibliosnark: Confessions of a Book Whore, that I thought was kind of fun. That and I love the name of her blog, I immediately grabbed the RSS feed.

* Grab the nearest book.
* Open it to page 56.
* Find the fifth sentence.
* Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these instructions.
* Don’t dig for your favorite book, the cool book, or the intellectual one: pick the CLOSEST.

My result: “It wasn’t my Mexican Blood. It wasn’t my lurid background. One of the other guys told me why, finally, meaning to piss me off. It was that my adopted parents weren’t high enough on the Washington social register.”

Technically, the closest book was my Kindle, but location 56 doesn’t work really… but if you estimate that Kindle page locations are estimated in 10, take 56 * 10 you get location 560.

So here is the Kindle version of this meme

* Grab the nearest book.
* Open it to location 560
* Find the fifth sentence.
* Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these instructions.
* Don’t dig for your favorite book, the cool book, or the intellectual one: pick the CLOSEST.

My result: “Sam swallowed and forced himself himself to look away.”

Meme time: 5 fictional characters that begin with N

I have to give Imdb their due, I am  not sure that I could have done the meme with out their search engine. So, here are my 5 fictional characters that begin with N.

The rules:

1. Comment on this post and ask for a letter.
2. I will give you one.
3. Think of 5 fictional characters whose names begin with that letter, and post their names and your comments on these characters on your blog.

My letter courtesy of Kristie, was N. I spent two days trying to come up with 5 fictional characters that started with K and I couldn’t think of one so I had to go back and ask for another letter. This time I got a different one – R. I still had a tough time, but I did manage to think them up.

Nurse Ratched – From One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest: 300px-Nurse_Ratched

Scary business here! Nurse Ratched has become a cultural icon and metaphor for bureaucratic corruption, according to Wickipedia. I just think she is scary.

    Nirrti – From Stargate SG -1

    nirrti_fairgame

    An acient Hindu goddess of darkness (actually a Goa’uld, though) that is responsible for mass destruction. I think that she was a good villain with lots of sparkly bits.

    Nebakanezer – From the Matrix

    The Nebakanezer was the ship that Morpheus and his crew ran in the Matrix movies. The ship developed a personality as do most ships in Sci-Fi flicks.

    Nigel – From Finding Nemo

    CropperCapture[1] I loved Nigel, he had some seriously comedic moments. He is one if the pelicans from the movie “Finding Nemo”. Nigel aids in the escape plans.

    Nottingham – From Witchblade

    ian1

    Nottingham 2001 a character on the cable show Witchblade. I loved this character, he was completely unpredictable and slightly twisted.
