Her Wiccan, Wiccan Ways: Traci Hall

I downloaded this book from Amazon during one of the 0$ promotions. I enjoyed this book, it appealed to me not only for the price but the story. The characters were fun and engaging. If you enjoy reading YA books with a paranormal flavor, you will enjoy this book.

Not that dispelling ghosts is her area of expertise, but really, how hard can it be? And then there’s Jared Roberts. Totally hot. For a cowboy, that is. Only problem? Highland Knight: Cindy Miles

HighlandKnightI purchased Highland Knight by Cindy Miles right after I read her MacGowen’s Ghost. I had a great time reading these two  books and I will read more if she writes more stories for the men. This is a light read that is fun and sweet. If you are in the mood for a romance with a bit of paranormal (think Lynn Kurland), you will like Cindy Miles.

Down and Dirty: Sandra Hill

There are some days that I need Brain Candy, I crave it. Well, Down and Dirty satisfied my Brain Candy urge and then some. This is a light hearted tale in Sandra Hill’s Viking Time travel series. It’s a cute read and provides some humor. Especially for those of us that have a brat in our lives, Sammy the Brat stole the show.

Maureen Child: More Than Fiends & A Fiend in Need

I read More than Fiends and A Fiend in Need back to back the other day and I had a great time. Its a lighthearted series that can make fun and have a great time in the process.

I think that the only thing that I can complain about in the series is that the main character refer to her vagina as a hoo-ha. Repeatedly…. The first few times it’s amusing but then it grates on my nerves, there are so many other euphemisms that can be used it you don’t want to say vagina. I recently heard “Lady – Town” and I thought that was cute. But if you are going to say something about a penis and a hoo-ha, why not be consistent and use appropriate terms for both or euphemisms for both?

Despite my rant, I enjoyed the books and I will definitely read the next in the series.

But Cassie’s surprised by her sudden fighting instincts and fierce new strength…both of which she’s going to need. For one thing, her teenage daughter thinks her dad is dead, but in truth he just never knew about her…and now he’s moved back to town. And after many dateless years, men are finally lining up on Cassie’s doorstep. Sadly, most of them aren’t human.

Kindle 2

Kindle2 The Kindle version 2 was announced yesterday. I have conflicting thoughts about the newest version of the Kindle. I would love to upgrade, but what would I do with my old version? Would I sell it? How much would I have to get for my 1.0 before I would feel that the difference to 2.0 would be justified? 100$? 200$?

What about a recycling program for the Kindle? Some other hardware vendors have recycling programs that offer an incentive for new purchases, I think that Amazon should consider this option if they plan to offer new versions in this timeframe. If I could get a discount on a new version with the recycling of my old hardware I would be happier about upgrading. It would also fit into the ease of use portion of the Kindle’s marketing hype.

I think that I would feel better if I had more assurance that version 2.0 was better than my 1.0. I love my Kindle, why should I upgrade? There isn’t a price break for current Kindle owners. The video on Amazon’s site of current Kindle owners speaking about 2.0 isn’t really informative about the improvements of 2.0. The owners are waxing poetic about owning a Kindle, and I agree it’s great…. but what about 2.0? what’s different? Yes, it’s thinner and the pages flip faster, but I want to know more about the usability form the owners.

What I really want to know before I commit to 359$ is…. What am I getting that I don’t already have? Do I want it because it’s new and shiny? Just because I am a techno geek? When is version 3.0 slated for launch? What are the features planned for 3.0? A roadmap, if you please…

I have committed to the Kindle technology and I encourage readers to embrace it. But I am not seeing enough for me to lay out another 359$ when I haven’t even made back my original investment in savings (I’m close though).

I’ve been reading, really…

Really, truly…I have been reading, not a lot but still reading. I just got wrapped up in a head cold and feeling seriously icky. So there wasn’t so much posting to go with my reading.

I think that I’ll do a lump post of the books that I have read while sick and then I’ll start doing individual posts again. I sort of feel like I am cheating, but I know if I don’t get it done now I’ll never get these books documented. (Yes, I am that lazy)

Anyway here are the latest books that I have read:

EvilWays Evil Ways: Justin Gustainis
This is the second in the series and it’s well worth the read.
Spiral Hunt  Spiral hunt: Margaret Ronald
This is a great start to a new series. I really enjoyed the book and I am looking forward to the next in the series.
Revelations Revelations – A Blue Bloods Novel: Melissa De La Cruz
I think that I need to re-read the entire series, because I did enjoy this book I think that I would have enjoyed it more. Some of the storyline I forgot, I think that I’ll go back and re-read the entire series
WaitUntilYourVampireGetsHome  Wait Till Your Vampire Gets Home: Michele Bardsley
Light fluffy and fun, that is what I thought about this book. I had a great time with this one.
KissOfFate  Kiss of Fate: Deborah Cooke
Dragon shifters are great, I am enjoying the struggle of the Pyr and the Slayers. Reading about the firestrom of the leader of the Pyr was great. I liked the interaction of the characters.

Kindle Stats

Since it’s the start of a new year, I think that I’ll review my decision to buy my Kindle. I purchased it in May of 08, and I have saved about 80% of the purchase price of it.  That’s a savings of 294.83$ in 8 months. Not too bad…. I still think that I made a good decision.  If I purchase 5 more hardbacks, I should be able to say that my Kindle has paid for itself.

Kindle Covers: Oberon Design

If you have a Kindle you should go look at the Oberon Design site. They have some hand crafted leather covers. I have a couple of their other products, and I can say that the quality is very good. The checkbook cover and sketchbook covers that I have have lasted for years and they wear wonderfully.

I have an Edge cover for my Kindle, but I think I’ll be ordering the Oberon cover soon.
