My name is Lys and I love to read, most days I’ll be reading morning, afternoon, and night. I am not an author, nor do I ever aspire to be an author. (just look at my grammar, you will agree…) Although, I do some content management work for Harlequin, but other than that I am just another reader.
I have been working in technology for so long that sometimes it’s hard to remember how to communicate without using code or emoticons. This is a project that I started to try and document my feelings about the books that I have been reading.
This blog is pure opinion. And that opinion may be influenced by the phase of the moon, my mental state, if my kid is being a pest, or if I have had a killer day writing code.
I may also have opinions about my Kindle, author web sites, and/or tribbles.
Currently, I am using a system of rating that coincides with my mental status of the moment. My ratings involve "Would I read it again?" and "Is it hardback worthy?” This helps me to categorize the books during donation time.
Donation time, I love it. I will either drop off books to my local library or put a post on FreeCycle. I encourage you to do the same.
Hardback Worthy – I would purchase this book or the other’s other books in hardback without an issue.
Paperback Only – This was enjoyable, but I would not purchase it in hardcover.
Comfort Read – Keep and will read again repeatedly
Guilty Pleasure – This one may not appeal to all people, but I will keep it and re-read it as the whim strikes me.
Recommend -Good book, most possibly excellent. But something about the subject matter does not make me want to pull it out and read it when I have had a crap day and want to escape. Will willing pass it on and recommend it to others.
Brain Candy – Enjoyed the read, was worth the entertainment value, it will be donated to the library for others to enjoy.
Ho-Humm – It was just there, I had to struggle to finish it.
Series Read: Continue – I bought it because it’s in a series and I enjoyed one of the previous books in the series. I will continue with the series.
Series Breaker – This book soured me on the series and it will take quite a bit of effort to draw me back into the series.
Not My Thing -I either tried to read this in the wrong phase of the moon or the subject matter did not suit me at the time. I may try again, will shelve until I have a firm decision.
Bleh– This book was just bad.
Pitch it across the room – Something in this book offended me so much that I won’t finish it.
I will usually try to keep spoilers from my comments. I hate to read a review and read a crucial tidbit that would give me foresight into the novel. I am a person that enjoys the journey from start to finish, I don’t skip around. Spoilers just ruin the journey for me, so I try hard not to include them in my posts.
You will see several genres in my reviews; Fantasy, Romance, Suspense, Sci-Fi, Mystery, Craft, and anything else that interests me. If you have a book to recommend to me, speak up. I love learning about new authors.
cya!
