Cry Wolf: Patricia Briggs

Hmm… I liked this one, but I wanted to LOVE it. I have read several of Patricia Brigg’s novels and I like all of what I have read. I love the Mercy Thompson series. The things that prevented me from loving this book are CryWolfsimple…I like a stronger heroine, I really wanted the heroine to stand up and demand to know what is going on with her life. I wanted her to demand to know what an Omega is and why she suffered at the hands of her last Alpha.

I see that this is the first in a new series, so I might get my wish and the heroine will develop and grow. I sure hope so, because I would like her a lot more if she did grow.

Don’t get me wrong, I did enjoy this book and I will definitely read the next in the series. It’s just that I love the Mercy books, and I wanted to love the Anna & Charles book. I am looking forward to the next in the series to see what develops with Anna/Charles relationship and what happens within the pack. From some of the things that are in Cry Wolf, the next few books in the series could be interesting.

Description (Amazon)

Anna never knew werewolves existed until the night she survived a violent attack…and became one herself. After three years at the bottom of the pack, she’d learned to keep her head down and  never, ever trust dominant males. But Anna is that rarest kind of werewolf: an Omega. And one of the most powerful werewolves in the country will recognize her value as a pack member—and as his mate.

I see. I did read them back-to-back, so maybe that’s why it didn’t bother me. I actually like these books better than Moon Called (I have yet to read Blood Bound and Iron Kissed), maybe because there is more romance and we get more POVs. Or maybe just because I connect with these characters more than I did with Mercy.

I have read “Alpha and Omega”, and I realize that is where the story began. But I would have liked the reference to the information. Sometimes it’s hard to keep track of storylines and details when the time between releases is so long. I think that is one of the reasons that I re-read books in a series, for the refresher…

Unfortunately, this time I didn’t re-read the short story or any of the Mercy books. So, I wound up with a slightly different opinion. I am sure that if I had re-read the books with the Anna & Charles back story, I would have nothing to complain about.

Actually, this series started with the novella “Alpha and Omega” in the anthology On the Prowl. In that story, Anna learns what an omega werewolf is and why Leo, the alpha of her Chicago pack abused her. Since her questions about that are answered there, she already knows these things and so I think she doesn’t need to ask about them in Cry Wolf.

How have you read this already? I’ve been desperately waiting for this to be released!!! :)

I love the Mercy series and feel that it would be hard to live up to it – I just re-read all three this last weekend. But, I also love how Patricia writes and am excited for a new book based in the same world.
